We believe everyone deserves compassionate, skilled, and culturally responsive support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Our Community Doula Program is designed to provide full-spectrum care to Medicaid enrollees in the District of Columbia, ensuring access to meaningful, relationship-centered support to birthing families.
Our doulas provide emotional, physical, and informational support tailored to your unique needs and preferences. Our community doula partners provide respectful, trauma-informed, and culturally grounded care. We focus on building relationships, honoring your autonomy, and ensuring you feel supported, informed, and seen throughout your experience.
Services include:
DC Medicaid enrollees can access up to 12 total visits throughout pregnancy and up to 6 months postpartum. Visits can take place over telehealth or in-person depending on the topic and need. These services are fully covered with no out-of-pocket cost and billed directly to your insurance.

2. Our team will review your information, confirm insurance benefits, and follow up.
3. You’ll be asked to complete a few administrative intake forms through our client portal.
4. We’ll introduce you to your doula to get started.
5. Your doula will work with you to decide how to use your visits to best support your unique needs.
We are in network with the following plans:
Unfortunately, we do not accept Maryland or Virginia Medicaid plans at this time.
Doulas offer continuous support throughout labor and birth, including at home births. However, doulas cannot take the place of trained medical providers, such as OB/GYNs and midwives. BirthingKind requires the attendance of a licensed midwife in order to support clients choosing to birth at home.
Our community support is exclusively focused on serving DC Medicaid enrollees at this time. If you are ineligible for Medicaid but still have a need-based request, we encourage you to explore options through the Community Doula Network.
Doula assignments depend heavily on availability for your specific due date. If you have a preferred provider, please note this when filling out the self-referral form in the ‘Notes/Comments’ section at the bottom of the form and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
Yes! While we cannot guarantee availability, we are always happy to explore working with clients referred by other community organizations. Simply fill out our HIPAA-compliant provider referral form and we’ll take it from there!
